All websites and their contents are stored in physical servers somewhere in the world and not in the ether or cyberspace. If you wish to know the location of the servers you connect to or in which country your files go when you back them up, Flagfox can provide you with this information. This simple browser extension can indicate a server's country of origin, when you connect to any website. Also, Flagfox allows you to retrieve additional information about the country or the server, about its traffic figures and more.
As the name suggests, Flagfox is an extension for Mozilla Firefox. It can be installed like any other extension, from Firefox's plug-ins menu or by simply double clicking the extension file in Windows Explorer. Flagfox is offered free of charge and it takes only a few seconds to get it up and running on your browser.
While Flagfox is installed and enabled on Mozilla Firefox, you will notice a flag icon in the address bar, whenever you visit a website. This is how you will know a webserver's physical location. You can also see its IP address if you hover with the mouse cursor over the flag.
Right clicking the aforementioned flag will reveal a series of services, on which you can look up the website or its server. For example, you can see a server's location on a map, with the aid of Geotool, go to TinyURL and generate a short URL or look up the country on Wikipedia.
If you wish to find more options when right clicking the flag, you can enable them in Flagfox's settings menu, in Firefox's add-ons panel. It is also possible to assign custom actions and triggers to the flag.
You can see a webserver's country of origin instantly, without doing anything besides connecting to a website. The extension allows you to retrieve additional information about a server or its country.
There are no versions for other web browsers. While using Flagfox, you will always know a webserver's country of origin, as well as many other useful details.
